Market Opportunity - 200 New Postal Facilities

Industry sources say THE USPS plans to create 200 sanitation facilities across the country. Parsons Brinkerhoff and Gilbane Building Co would be program managers if the program grows, says Mike Goodwin, manager of major facilities for the Postal Service. If you're interested in Postal projects, it's time to get your sales and marketing efforts in gear and contact the right people at Parsons Brinkerhoff and Gilbane. It looks like cost is not the prime consideration here.

The U.S. Postal Service has already signed contracts with three engineering and construction companies to design and build facilities that will house equipment to sterilize mail. Lockwood Greene, Spartanburg, S.C., will design the housing for the sterilization technology, which could be new buildings or modifications of existing buildings. Parsons Brinckerhoff, New York City, and Gilbane Building Co., Providence, R.I., will act as construction managers.

The contracts were negotiated with the three companies for two-year terms with the option of six one-year extensions says Having no maximum value, USPS can spend what is necessary to complete the task. "We have a sense of urgency and are in a soon-as-possible mindset, but we want to do it right the first time. Our credibility is at stake," says Goodwin.
